~*~

We are working aggressively to update our on-line, stay at home classes.

We will demonstrate how Traditional Shotokan's Karate (Karate-Do) Lessons apply to all things at all times.

We have an incredible global network of instructors we encourage input from you to set up a program to help EVERYONE!

Together we can help.

Please continue to check in as we accelerate our program.

At first it will be a bit crude. But we need to start. Then as we can we will fill in and polish.

~*~

Please email us each day that you've logged in and taken a lesson.

Send us a pic and or video of something you've been working on at home. Just to show, to get feed back.

~*~

Here are links for each individual level.

Keep up your practice.

Use our Videos to Practice at home while on vacation, if you move away or during pandemics.

2nd Lesson

Our Method

Condensed Version for the Beginner

Come to Class with a positive attitude.

To the Parents. It is important to teach your children that coming to Karate is like going to school. There is no discussion about going or not. It is part of your child's education. Set a schedule and stick to it. Anything other than this will undermine all the incredible life long skills to be gained, that Traditional Karate has to offer.

1). You walk in

The lessons:

To beware before you enter a space. To be on time - (Students are supposed to wait for sensei not sensei wait for students).

"To be prepared" with ones materials - pants, top and belt, neat and clean, folded when not in use. To not disrupt an on going class - again to be aware when entering a space.

2). You put your shoes away

The lessons:

Shoes on the shoe rack - The concept of being organized and orderly. Everything has a place and to leave room for others. The concept of self and others. To keep track and take care of ones possessions.

3). You have a seat

The lessons:

We sit in a way everyone now knows as "social distancing" The first person gets the King/ Queen Seat - "The Early Bird gets the Worm". The next person skips a space and takes one of two on either side. then the next takes the other space. We continue then fill in.  - We have always practiced this. - Now you see how it applies in the realm of "social distancing".

Criss Cross your legs and sit up. -The criss cross position is a hip stretch and the sitting up is a back strengthener.

This is a pre meditation to prepare oneself for the task ahead of us.

4). "The Lesson here is a Dojo is supposed to be clean."

The lesson: Hygiene, using cleaning the Dojo floor as the main example - Then we expand on the concept.

Everyday the students observe me as I clean the floor.

When I finish I prompt the students to blurt out "the lesson here is a dojo is supposed to be clean".

Rest and relaxation, deep meditation, proper hygiene, and a positive attitude were important to the samurai.

While it should be obvious that these are important for everyone, most people sacrifice these areas to do more work faster.

I'm usually the one to clean the floor but Traditionally it the students who are supposed to clean the floor before class starts and after class finishes.

5). We line up - Beginning Meditation

The lessons:

To move  (converge) in an orderly fashion.

To respect seniors.

To have a sense of team.

The meditation to prepare one for the task at hand.

We bow to give thanks for all we have.

We bow to greet the sensei.

6). We spread out

The lessons:

To move (disperse) out in an orderly fashion. - "Again Social Distancing."

7). The physical exercise

The lessons:

Categories

The lessons:

Loosen up - mobility in all directions.

Pick your instructor for the Warm Up

The Stages:

To Be aware

Agility - to be nimble

To Avoid

This one way we practice "social distancing" in Traditional Karate

How to fall

How to get up

To fight

To get away

8). We Line up

The lessons:

To  move (converge) in an orderly fashion.

To respect seniors.

To have a sense of team.

The meditation to reflect on what we have accomplished, what we have learned and what we need to do to keep the sense of self improvement.

If everyone self improves then society is better.

9). We say "good bye" Ending Meditation

The lessons:

We bow to give thanks for all we have.

We bow to say thank you and good bye to the sensei.
