We are now working on this segment of Traditional Karate Training. We have included Enbu as one of our points of focus.

We will be constantly adding and building this page.

Enbu is choreographed sparring between two individuals. It is a competition event but is also a vehicle for greater understanding of Traditional Karate (as intended by Nishiyama sensei) specifically kumite.

Participation in Enbu in the United States as a whole has been below par as compared to many other countries around the world. This is our attempt to contribute to elevating the quality and level of all aspects of Traditional Karate training. Sensei used the term "Total Training".

From the first day after returning from the 16th ITKF Traditional Karate Championships in Lodz, Poland, we have been allotting class time and self training time towards the subject & study of Enbu.

Since International Competition is done on tatami (mats). The U.S. needs to invest in mats for selected dojos, to train properly. We are limited by floors other than mats. The U.S. needs to invest in at least one ring at U.S. Nationals, with a mat,  to be designated for Enbu & Team Kata.

The U.S. is slowly building what I would call a "Nationals Kit" that includes props, signage and miscellanea for our Nationals. This 'Kit" needs to include mats. This "Kit" could be put in a POD (shipping container) that would be shipped from host region to host region. Expanding on the this concept of a kit would save all of us money in the long run. It would reduce waste, duplication and allow us to purchase more and higher quality essentials and pageantry.

Side note - Traditional Karate is supposed to be self defense against more than one opponent.

We would like to see practice in Enbu to include more than one opponent as we see in Team Kata Bunkai.

Enbu

a Training Program

What we offer here is not a final product. It is a program for the study of Enbu. Study, study, study come back to the page and learn more each time. Watch the page grow. Watch as the quality of the students improve (as should yours) with guidance, study and practice.
